Meet Our Team

Monkey Boy Steve

My passion for motorcycles runs deep—way back to my earliest memories of growing up in rural Indiana. I was lucky enough to cut my teeth on an old Honda CT70, buzzing down gravel driveways and threading through cornfields that seemed to stretch forever. The smell of gas and oil, the rasp of that little engine, and the thrill of freedom out on those dirt trails left an imprint that never faded.

In college, I moved from trails to tarmac, tearing through twisties and straightaways on a rotation of nine different sport bikes. Each one had a story—some fast, some faster—and they all carried me across countless miles of backroads and highways. Asphalt became my playground, and I chased speed like a religion.

Then life shifted. Career. Responsibility. For a while, the bikes were parked, and that part of me went quiet. But in 2022, everything changed. A good friend and I—both hungry for something that felt a little more like us—picked up matching Honda Monkeys. We didn’t just buy bikes; we bought nostalgia. Instantly, we were kids again—ripping through trails, laughing through the mud, and finding adventure in the simple joy of riding.

That year we hit the Wailin' Wayne Weekend, and something clicked. The terrain was gnarly, the people unforgettable, and somewhere between the first hill climb and the last cold beer, someone dubbed us the “Monkey Boys.” The name stuck. I’ll be returning to WWW for the third year in a row this fall (2025), and it feels more like a homecoming each time.

Through the Monkey Boys journey, I’ve connected with some incredible people in the off-road and ADV scene—like Chad Warner (BDR Ambassador/Wailin Wayne Weekend), Kane Wagner of Appalachian ADV(BDR Ambassador), Brad McFadden from Lost at Last Adventure Travel, and Matt McCourt of Life’s Journey at 50. They’ve each left a mark on my riding and my outlook.

I’ve spent serious seat time in Wayne National Forest, my home turf for exploration, but I’ve also ventured farther—participating in the Red River Scramble, Appalachian ADV Fool’s Ride, and the legendary Smoky Mountain Small Bore Rally. In 2024, I added a KTM 390 Adventure to the stable to up my game, and sharpened my skills at an Appalachian ADV clinic with Kane Wagner. That bike—nimble, tough, and purpose-built—has pushed me to new terrain, both mentally and physically.

This isn’t just a hobby—it’s a lifestyle I’ve grown back into, and now I’m riding it all the way forward.

Motorcycles have been a part of my life since I was five. My first ride was a 1970s-era AMF Harley Aermacchi X-90 2-stroke, and I spent years tearing up our property (sorry, Mom!). After a wreck knocked out my baby teeth, my dad rebuilt me a Honda Mini Trails 50cc, and I was back in the saddle.

I also grew up racing remote-control cars and go-karts, always chasing that thrill of speed. In 2001, I bought my first street bike, a 1987 Yamaha Virago, but in 2006, a serious accident left me with a crushed foot, and I stepped away from riding for 11 years.

Then one day, a friend needed me to ride his new bike down the road. Hesitant at first, I quickly remembered why I loved it—100 yards in, and I was hooked again. Two weeks later, I picked up a 2016 Vulcan S. After one year and 17,000 miles, I traded it in for a 2018 Harley Heritage Softail. Today, my garage includes a 2022 Honda Monkey, a 2022 Harley Heritage, a 2024 KLX 300, and a 2024 Tenere 700.

In 2023, I attended the Wailin Wayne Weekend event, which ignited a new passion for off-road riding. This experience sparked my desire to share off-road adventures, leading to my current passion for exploring and connecting with the off-road community.
